Yes, as an HR Executive, I asked this question many times during the interview. No the goal was not to make candidates sweat during the interview. And it wasn't even to see if I could catch a candidate slipping by providing me his/her weakness. The goal was to see how the candidate recovered from their mistake, learned from the experience, and then how they created a better path moving forward from the experience.
